To overcome anxiety, we work together so you can recognise and deal with your triggers for anxious feelings, learn relaxation techniques and make the lifestyle changes which will help you. You will learn the tools and techniques you need to get your anxiety under control.

Types of Anxiety

Anxiety is normal human behaviour experienced by most of us from time to time. We all feel anxious in high pressure scenarios such as public speaking, exams, job interviews and hospital appointments. This can cause sleepless nights, difficulty eating and concentrating. There are many different types, including panic attacks, phobias and social anxiety.

Phobias are irrational and often crippling fears which  impact your life. They can be of objects (e.g. snakes or mice), experiences (e.g. heights, crowded places or driving), or ideas (fear of germs).

Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are intense periods of fear or discomfort.

During the attack, a person may experience:

  • Difficulty breathing, feeling as though you ‘can’t get enough air’
  • Racing heartbeat
  • Terror that is almost paralysing
  • Dizziness, light-headedness or nausea
  • Trembling, sweating, shaking
  • Choking, chest pains
  • Hot flushes, or sudden chills
  • Tingling in fingers or toes (‘pins and needles’)
  • Fear that you’re going to go mad or are about to die

Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is a fear of social situations, feeling overly self-aware around other people, worrying what they think of you, being unable to start a conversation with strangers. It’s a kind of crippling form of shyness when every day situations become difficult to manage.
